The short version
Alibi is built so your location never has to leave your own devices. We keep this policy plain because privacy is the whole point of the product.
- Your real GPS and your chosen locations are processed locally on your Mac — we don't upload them.
- We keep no logs of where you go or where you project.
- We never sell your data or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We collect only the minimum needed to sell you the app, support you, and keep it working.
Who this applies to
This policy covers the Alibi app and our website. It explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Alibi is for adults and isn't directed to children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
What we collect
We aim to collect as little as possible. Depending on how you use Alibi, that may include:
- Account & purchase info — your email address and a record of your plan when you buy a license.
- Payment info — handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We receive a confirmation and limited details (like card brand and the last four digits), never your full card number.
- Support messages — anything you send us when you email support.
- Website data — basic, privacy-respecting analytics about how the site is used, plus anything you submit through a form.
- Optional diagnostics — anonymous crash and reliability data from the app, only if you opt in.
Your location data
This is the part that matters most. Alibi runs on your Mac and communicates with your iPhone over USB. Your real GPS position and the locations you set are used on your device to do their job — they are not transmitted to us or stored on our servers.
Saved places and saved routes live locally on your machine. If you delete them, they're gone — there's no server-side copy for us to keep, share, or hand over.
How we use information
- Provide and license the app, and unlock paid features.
- Process payments and honor the money-back guarantee.
- Respond to your support requests.
- Keep the product secure, working, and improving (crash diagnostics only with opt-in).
- Meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
Why we're allowed to
Where laws like the GDPR apply, we process your information to perform our contract with you (selling and supporting the app), to meet legal obligations (such as tax records), and for our legitimate interest in keeping Alibi secure and reliable — or with your consent, such as for optional diagnostics.
International transfers
Our service providers may process limited account and payment data in the United States or other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers. Your location data isn't part of this — it never leaves your device.
Data retention
We keep account and purchase records for as long as needed to provide the product, meet legal and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes. Support emails are kept only as long as they're useful. You can ask us to delete your information at any time, and we will unless we're legally required to keep it.
Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete, or limit our use of the personal information we hold — and to not be treated differently for exercising those rights. Because we don't sell personal information, there's nothing to opt out of there, but you can still ask us anything.
To exercise any right, just email us. We'll verify your request and respond within the time the law allows.
Security
Connections to our services use encryption in transit. Because your location processing happens locally, the most sensitive data simply never reaches us — minimizing what we collect is our first line of defense. No system is perfectly secure, but there's very little about you on our side for anyone to find.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product and the law evolve. If we make material changes, we'll update the date below and, where appropriate, let you know. Continuing to use Alibi after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
